  1. 1 cup Chana daal/ bengal gram lentils
  2. 1/2 cup Grated fresh coconut
  3. 4 Fresh green chillies chopped
  4. 8 Curry leaves
  5. 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  6. For tempering:
  7. 1 tablespoon Ghee
  8. 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  9. 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  10. 1/4 tsp Hing
  11. 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  12. 1 tsp Grated fresh ginger
  13. As required Salt
  14. 1/2 tsp Sugar
  15. 1 tsp Cumin powder
  16. 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  17. 2 cup Hot water (to be added in batches.)
  18. 2 cups Hot water to soak the daal

Instructions to make to make Fodnichi Daal (फोडणीची डाळ)

  1. First, wash and soak the daal in hot water for 4 hours. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Heat a deep based pan. Heat ghee. Then add mustard and cumin seeds. After they pop up, add hing, grated ginger, curry leaves, Chillies and turn well.
  3. Then add the daal, saute for 5 minutes. Then add half of the coconut. Then add 1/2 cup hot water and cook covered for 15 to 20 minutes on low flame. Add more water only when needed.
  4. Press ths daal with fingers. If it mashes, it's done. Else cook more. Then mix in the seasonings, Coconut and switch off the heat.
  5. Finally, mix in the remaining coconut and lemon juice. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Offer to Bappa and then enjoy the prasadam 🙏
