Ingredients and spices that need to be Take to make Methi Dal:

  1. 1/2 cup arhar dal,
  2. 1/4 cup chana dal,
  3. 1/4 cup dhuli urad dal,
  4. 1/2 tsp haldi powder,
  5. to taste, Salt
  6. Pinch hing,
  7. 1 tsp desi ghee,
  8. 1 cup chopped methi patta,
  9. 1 aloo diced,
  10. 1 tsp oil,
  11. 2 garlic cloves chopped finely,
  12. 2 dry red chilli broken into halves,
  13. For 1 St Tadka..
  14. 2 tbsp desi ghee,
  15. Pinch of hing & zeera,
  16. 1 small onion chopped finely,
  17. 3 green chilli slitted,
  18. 1 tsp grated ginger,
  19. 1 tomato chopped finely,
  20. to taste, Salt
  21. 1 tbsp dahi,
  22. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder,
  23. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder,
  24. For 2nd Tadka....
  25. 2 tsp desi ghee,
  26. 1 tsp chopped garlic,
  27. 3 dry red chilli,
  28. 1/2 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder,

Steps to make to make Methi Dal

  1. Mix dals in a bowl, wash it, soak in water for 1/2 hour. Take a pressure cooker, add strained dal, haldi powder, salt, hing & ghee. Add 2.5 cup water.
  2. Place the lid, give 5 whistles. Lower the flame, cook it for 5 minutes. Turn off the flame, allow it to depressurise naturally.
  3. Open the lid after 5 minutes, give a stir. Dal should be a lil thick. Keep aside.
  4. In the mean time, take a wok, add 1 tsp oil, heat it. Add garlic, saute it until light brown. In goes dry red chilli, saute it for a sec. Add washed methi patta & aloo, stir fry it for a minute. Add salt, give a stir. Cover it, cook it on low flame until almost cooked. open the lid, stir fry it on high flame till dry. Keep aside.
  5. For 1st Tadka.... Take a wok, add ghee, heat it.
  6. Add hing & zeera, let it splutter. Now add onion & green chilli, stir fry it until light brown.
  7. In goes ginger, saute it for a sec.
  8. Add tomato & salt, mix it well. Add very lil water, stir it. Lower the flame, cover it with the lid, cook it until tomato becomes mushy.
  9. Open the lid, increase the flame, mix red chilli powder & garam masala powder with dahi, add in the masala. Mix it well.
  10. Lower the flame, cover it again cook it until oil has oozed out.
  11. Open the lid, increase the flame, add methi aloo, mix it well. In goes dal. Stir it.
  12. U can add water as per ur desire. Cook it for 5 minutes. Stir in between.
  13. Turn off the flame, take out in a serving bowl. Keep aside.
  14. Fir 2 nd Tadka.... Take a tadka pan, add ghee, heat it.
  15. In goes garlic, saute it until brown. Add dry red chilli, saute it until light brown.
  16. Turn off the flame, add Kashmiri red chilli powder, immediately pour onto the dal.
